The Morphing ContinuesCatalyst for Change opens new portals
Did you know? That quantum science has much to teach us about organizations The phenomenon of massive, rapid change is one which has become a common feature of organizational life in recent years. No one is spared, it seems. And even though the media is chock-a-block full of articles exposing the failures associated with downsizing to save money, acquisitions to obtain instant product lines or expertise, we continue to participate in these special forms of insanity. Given that a key myth of business is that it is totally rational, what's going on here? When we consider today's business culture through the lens of quantum mechanics our continued obsession with buy-outs, mergers and downsizing begins to make some sort of sense. Field theory teaches us that everything in the universe is connected and that different kinds of fields exist and overlap. Fields appear to be created when attention is focused and directed on specific kinds of activity. We can expect, then, that all organizations exist energetically within an organizational field and that as organizations of various kinds focus on mergers, acquisitions, buy-outs, downsizing, etc., this focus spreads throughout the field, permeating all kinds of organizations. Wheatley (Leadership and the New Science, 1994) reminds us: "In the natural world, fields once formed may continue to propagate, continuing to exist even when their progenitors have disappeared." So what are our options? Quite simply, it appears to be creating a new focus, a new base of thought that can then begin to propagate. If you think this is simplistic thinking, notice how quickly fads spread! Jaworski (Synchronicity, 1996) posited that: "If you assume that fields exist, then our intention and state of being as individuals are of prime importance. They affect our actions as leaders, and the way we see ourselves as leaders. This sets the tenor of the field in any setting, in any room, any single person through his or her intention and way of being in a way can reset the field and change the orientation of the whole." Thought WavesThe following article was submitted by Susan Griffin, Managing Director of TidePool Resources.Exploring Reiki through a WEL-Systems® perspectiveWhen I first began to practice Reiki, I was enthralled with the flow of energy in a client, being witness to the deep state of relaxation, the deeper state of mind, the insights, the melting of stress, the relief from pain of migraine. It was like magic to me, and part of that magic was the sense of complete connection to Self that I felt when I engaged with a client, when I was being Reiki. Along the way I also discovered the WEL-Systems® approach to change. As I explored WEL-Systems and the CODE Model , my personal evolution accelerated. A number of my beliefs about me and my world changed. I became less passionate about Reiki. It seemed no longer to hold the same power or magic for me. My new beliefs caused me to examine what I had learned about Reiki and how it had been taught to me. Traditionally, Reiki is taught in a context that uses the language of emotions, feelings, blockage and disease. It uses the interpretation of energy flow as symptoms to assess, analyze, describe or explain an issue. Reiki requires that the practitioner learn from a Reiki Master and be attuned by the Master to specific Reiki frequencies. The practitioner is then a channel for universal healing energy to be passed to a client. This places the practitioner as the external expert, the healer. "Don't try this at home without me!" Through a WEL-Systems perspective, I had discovered that this approach represents a perspective on the world that can be called the 'therapy' model. There is nothing innately good, bad, right or wrong about Reiki in a therapy model context, that's just the way it has always been done. So I ask myself what else might be possible if Reiki were considered in another context? Through my experience of WEL-Systems and what I have learned from quantum science, I have come to a different perception of energy. We are all energetic beings. Universal energy is always available to us, we are all connected energetically. Energy is information. Energy flows all the time. Everyone has the ability to feel or sense their own and anyone else's energy. This is an innate ability. I believe that we do not need to be attuned to Reiki, or any other energy frequencies; we have the ability to change our own vibrational frequency by our intention. So how do my new perceptual filters change my Reiki practice? How can I engage Reiki through the WEL-Systems perspective? As a CODE Model coach, I engage with my client energetically. We begin with conversation, using questions to evoke energetic responses in the body; information flows and we obtain insights. It is a dance of energy flow and conversation. What would it look like if I engaged Reiki in a similar way, if my intention was connection to Self and universal energy? Who would I get to be as an expression of perpetually flowing energy? If used autopoietically, could Reiki be a form of coaching without linguistic expression; a dance of energy, fields interplaying in energetic "conversation"? So I am left with questions to ponder, rather than answers to offer. I continue my exploration of Reiki through the lens of 7 Logical Levels and the CODE Model. As the insights arrive, expect more!
